This quarter we decided to clean house and in true Adlucent fashion, we turned it into a competition. Adlucites were divided into four teams and given the direction to clean out their closets for the benefit of others. The gently used clothing and bedding would be donated to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore who will resell the items to low income families and invest the profits into building supplies for affordable housing.
Each team was given two weeks to bring in their donations. The team who collected the most (by weight) would be given $500 to donate to the charity of their choice. The team who took second place would receive $250.
The competition was fierce and Erin’s team took an early lead that could not be surpassed. When the clothing drive ended, Erin’s group of hoarders had amassed 514 pounds in donations. Second place went to Japhia’s team with a strong 470 pounds. The third and fourth place teams brought in an additional 589 pounds, bringing the total donation amount to 1,573 pounds!
Adlucent’s Service Council did a great job organizing this event. We’re proud of the team and the impact we’ll have on the Austin community.
