Adlucites Lending A Hand

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”  We agree with the wise words of Winston Churchill.  For Adlucites, service is a large part of who we are and it plays a big role in our Better Every Day mantra.  So as summer turns to fall, we’d like to take a moment and reflect on how we lended a hand to our community here in Austin, Texas.

We began our summer by volunteering at Community First, an organization that provides food, clothing, shelter, and community to individuals in need.  We got our hands dirty and it felt great as we built walls for community members, cleaned up the grounds, and scrubbed down some of the many mini-homes Community First provides for their residents.  And since Adlucites are natural advertisers, we had no problem handing out flyers to community members to spread the word about Community First’s summer movie screenings and events.  Community First is an admirable organization that makes a huge impact in the lives of individuals who are overcoming tough obstacles and we were happy to help them out.

In September, Hurricane Harvey brought devastation to our neighbors in south Texas—flooding a large portion of the Houston area.  Adlucites answered the call and immediately fundraised $1,000 in individual team member contributions to donate to the Red Cross.  As a company, we also contributed $2,500 to the Austin Disaster Relief Network, an organization that mobilizes in time of crisis, and $2,500 to Team Rubicon, a group that employs veterans for disaster relief efforts.  At Adlucent, team members organized quickly to provide assistance to those in need and we began a donation drive to collect supplies for Austin-area hurricane shelters.  We donated items such as diapers, toiletries, canned food, and cleaning supplies.  We also created “Welcome to Austin” kits that contained essential items, activities to keep kids busy, and notes of encouragement for Hurricane Harvey evacuees in Austin-area shelters.

Our work for hurricane evacuees and others in need continues as we recently visited the Austin Diaper Bank to help out in the warehouse.  Since diapers aren’t covered by federal assistance, they are often an essential item that isn’t always guaranteed for those who need them.  Adlucites helped organize and take inventory of the diapers in their warehouse.  Providing diapers for individuals of all ages at 30 organizations across Austin, the Austin Diaper Bank makes a big impact in our community and we were happy to contribute our time.

The thoughtful members of the Adlucent Service Council planned and organized all of our involvement efforts this season.  They play a big role in ensuring Adlucites become Better Every Day by helping others in need.
